Dallas Morning News Headline, "Texas Approves Gay Marriage Ban"
November 8, 2005 11:30 p.m.
A word from Music for Marriage Founder, April Samuels
I want to thank all of you - my friends, my family, my band mates, endorsers, and anyone else that stood up and voted against Proposition 2 - we really did do all we could and we reached a lot of people who would never have bothered voting or would never have voted against proposition 2. We changed minds and made people think. We will change the world, one person at a time.
So, tonight, as I sit here scratching my head wondering how we got here, I think of all the people in Texas that are hurt, crying, and hopeless from what has transpired. I only hope that those of use who decide to remain in Texas, a state I've lived in my whole life, will stay to fight; to try to make a difference - to educate and to share and most importantly - TALK about the issue.
We need to send a message that we are not trying to change beliefs, we are merely asking that we be allowed to have ours. I hope everyone will continue to challenge their social groups, churches, etc. to talk about this issue and help educate. There are many resources for this, but I recommend Answers to Questions about Marriage Equality as a good starting point.
We are ready to proudly march forward. We will post opportunities and ways we can go about working to change to Texas laws. We also hope to schedule events to get the word out and keep to our goal of educating Texas citizens. Thanks again, everyone, we're just getting started...

We will be heard.
*HJR-6 (Propostion 2): "The constitutional amendment providing that marriage in this state consists only of the union of one man and one woman and prohibiting this state or a political subdivision of this state from creating or recognizing any legal status
identical or similar to marriage."
